The image of firefighter
Chris Fields removing Baylee Almon from the rubble of the once standing
Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996. The
1-year old girl died later in a nearby hospital.
At 9:02 on the morning of April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh blew up a rented truck filled with 4,800 lbs of fertilizer and other explosive material to cause the worst case of domestic terrorism prior to the events of 9/11. The explosion killed 168 people and injured hundreds more. This Pulitzer Winning Photo was taken by Charles Porter who was a 25 year old amateur photographer. He developed the picture at a local Wal Mart and his friends encouraged him to take the photo to the media. He then found Wendel Hudson at the Associated Press and the rest is history. |
